Online Safety Training

  Program Goals:

1. Provide DDS service members training on internet safety, online communication skills, social media management methods, and resources for aid when cyber scams, bullying, or manipulation occurs online. There is growing literature supporting online presence as a human right and we believe that these individuals have a right to a safe, and secure, online identity. 

2. Provide proper training and resourcing for Family members and staff to equip them to best come alongside members as they explore their online identity. The training will provide the family and staff with the knowledge and tools to best come alongside members and support their personal ambitions for internet usage. 

3. Each module of the curriculum is focused on a different element of internet accessibility such as: general overview, social media, online communication and pro-social skills, online banking and applications, as well as online gaming platforms and communication. With empirical data to support development of skills, the program will monitor each individual’s progress and allow for family and staff to determine general safety and access on an individual basis. 

As the first online training program specifically designed for individuals with special needs, it is our goal that these individuals are able to access the internet and develop their online presence in a safe setting with access to information and resources. As we come alongside staff and family, it is the goal of Surf Safe OK that this process is person-centered as well as a team effort. We are here for you!
